Hollywood Heroes
03:12
|
|||
(Verse)
In every field of the media, you heroes are there
Reading a novel or watching TV, you’re like everywhere
And oh you’re so humble and yeah you’re so cool
You act like you care, yeah act like you care
Portraying the victims in ghettos and towns filled with human despair
Making believe that you’re down in the hood, while you’re living uptown
With never a worry for money or meal, So far removed
Far removed yeah
Bridge
Take a walk with me Hollywood
Take a walk on the South side of Chicago tonight
Make believe that we’re the police, let’s pretend at 1 o’clock in the morning
Verse
I was rushed to the hospital, not one actor there
The Doctors and Nurses get little respect
They’re not playing nowhere
Like you Hollywood stars who are paid to pretend,
They heal for real, heal for real yeah
Bridge
Come along now Hollywood, Let’s patrol the West side of Orlando tonight
Take a walk with me Hollywood
Meet the punks at 2 AM in the morning
Go on back to Hollywood
Go on back to your fantasy world full of make believe

(Verse)
I feel I’m in touch with my soul and I’m going to meet my spirit at last
All hell’s gonna break loose and I want to get out of here fast
I’m tired of praying to a God who really never listens at all
Get the feeling that I’m all alone and I’m really very tiny and small
(Chorus)
Free yeah, I want to get free yeah
(Verse 2)
Maybe I’m just a prophet of doom but I know we’re not going to last
Can’t take it anymore down here and I want to get out of here fast
Got so many troubles inside they’re gonna take me all apart real soon Everything’s turning out so bad and I know this darkness won’t pass
(Chorus)
Free yeah I want to get free yeah
(Bridge)
Don’t relate to my body no more and I want to get out of it fast
All the demons inside my head, they’re going to chain me down for good
This planet is heading for hell and I know we’re going to get there fast
It’s all going to happen so quick you won’t know what hit you at all
(Chorus)
Free yeah, I want to get free yeah; I want to get free yeah!
I want to get free_yeah

Jolie
03:12
|
|||
(Verse 1)
When Jolie’s looking down, she’s a woman mad with rage,
and without her sense of pride.
The world don’t make it easy, All around you life’s so hard,
Makes no difference how you try,
(Chorus 1)
Jolie, fly on a rainbow, Jolie, chase all the clouds away.
Jolie, where are you hiding,
You know you’ve got to come out one day.
Oh you’ve got to grow up some way, or you’ll fall so
(Verse 2)
Deep inside and them that fall so deep inside
them never get to fly.
Right next to you am I, I’m an ugly duckling too
I can see how hard you’ve tried; in those pretty, angry eyes.
(Chorus 2)
Jolie, pain’s not forever.
Jolie, the good times are bound to come
Jolie, it all adds up to living,
Soon you’ll be having fun
(Final 1/2 Chorus)
Jolie, pain’s not forever,
Come on in off the run.
Pretty soon you’ll be having fun.

“Stray Dog”
Music & Lyric by
Dennis Genovese & Karen Mantero
© ASCAP American Trucker Publishing 1974
Stray dog, sitting on the Brooklyn pier,
Stray dog, you’d better get away from here
Stray dog, looking like you’ve never slept, stray dog, the winter brings the cruelest death
My friend, nobody’s going to take you home, dirty dog, you're carrying your troubles all alone
It’s just unfortunate, that you were never born, in a puppy palace store, to a family and a home.
You’re just not lucky, it don’t matter what you try, there’s nothing I can do, don’t look me in the eye
(Verse 3)
Stray dog, sleeping in the filthy street, stray dog, begging for a bite to eat.
My friend, looking like you’ve lost your fight, dirty dog,
you’re never going to make it through the night.
(Chorus)
I found him in the morning, an eerie looking sight.
Lying in a truck yard, he made it through the night.
Howling in the air, I heard him everywhere.
Stray dog, you won’t leave me alone, dirty dog, I can’t be taking you home
Dog go away, Dog go away, I can’t be taking you home
All right, come on, you win

Music & Lyric by
Dennis Genovese & Pat Mclarnon

(Verse)
Alone but I’m not afraid,
Don’t need no one here to defend me
But everyone’s a friend when you’re chucking it in
I’m not down I’m not disgusted, No no I’m perfectly sane
(Chorus)
It’s my life that’s so desolate, everybody’s out there to get something
But love, it’s too desperate, either gets it all or you get nothing, and no one
(Bridge)
So I can’t wait no longer
Cause I’m fresh, out of hope
And for once in my life, gonna spin, my own wheel
There’s no living a lifetime, when you can’t even feel
(Verse 3)
Satisfaction baby, satisfaction for some
No decisions to make, something needs to be done
So at last I have decided, that my peace has got, to come

I sit here, still wanting, dreams that won’t come true
Oh these tears in my eyes, I just can’t hide
I feel this pain in my heart, tears me all apart
(Verse)
Oh Lottie, my Lottie, your time has come
Oh Lottie, my Lottie, now you must run
Like a bird needs to fly, fly Lottie fly
Like a bird needs the sky, go Lottie bye

Taken by surprise
All this time I’ve been hoping
That this love not die
I know I’ve got to lose you

(Verse 1)
Trudging down the street again
And one more time I lose a friend behind me.
The wind keeps howling through my head,
I wonder if an early death will find me.
(Verse 2)
Need someone here to talk to me
to help me keep my sanity from leaving.
The circles that my questions draw have
confiscated all that I believe in.
(Chorus1)
Dream on, Dream on
Dream, till your dreams are gone.
I keep looking for you baby
(Verse 3)
I’m looking for an open door the fourth dimension leaves you no way out.
This darkness has me hypnotized and I can hardly see,
My eyes are closing, my eyes are closing.
(Final chorus)
Dream on, Dream on, Dream
When your dreams are gone
When they’re gone, when they’re gone
I keep waiting for you baby
I keep looking for you baby

September Eleventh
04:46
|
|||
(Verse)
On Sept. Eleventh lots of Smokey’s died.
Trying to rescue all those people trapped inside
Climbing with courage as the South Tower fell, on that Tuesday good morning to hell
Bobby, Mitch, they were used to saving lives they didn’t know how to run backwards
They ran straight into the fire
So many heroes in one place at one time on that Tuesday good morning to hell
(Chorus)
Grieving young widows, motherless children, broken up families
(Verse 2)
Climbing 80 floors with loads upon their backs
Their eyes confirmed that look we’re never coming back
“If you go I go” legend laid right on the line; never so many all together at one time,
On that Tuesday good morning to hell
The home of the brave may be West St. N.Y. Their spirits live on at the Persian Gulf ports
They live in the hearts of our warriors young
And they won’t be forgot when it’s over and done
(Chorus)
Grieving young widows, motherless children, broken up families
We’re United States here’s what we say, we won’t forget Patriot Day
(Verse 3)
Beware of the souls with the tears in their eyes for only the strong have the courage to cry
We all stand united our flag it fly’s high; their spirits are living and will never die
(Chorus)
Grieving young widows, Motherless children, broken up Families
We’re United States, here’s what we say, we won’t forget Patriot Day
For my courageous brother Bobby

|

“Monsters on the Road”
Lyrics by Dennis Genovese
Music by Dennis Genovese, Chrissy Pace, & Kia Ward
© American Trucker Publishing 1999
(Verse 1)
Running hard thru the foggy night, waiting on a bit of morning light
Loosing time but it makes no sense
To be hammered down when there ain’t much sight
No appointment can be worth the risk, of maybe hurting someone's wife or kids
So you've got to take it on the chin, if you get there late, they'll just have to wait
(Verse 2)
Don't be early don't be late, don't be over axle weight
And whatever comes along you will take the blame, whether right or wrong
Haven't had a bite to eat; sure ain't had enough to sleep
And as I light another smoke, I can't help laughing what a joke!
(Chorus)
American Trucker; monsters on the road they say
American Trucker; lifeline of the U.S.A.
(Verse 3)
If safety is of real concern, the F.H.A. has lots to learn
With all the rules and regs they write they've never asked for our insight
(Chorus)
American trucker, fighting a bad rep today
American trucker, lifeline of the U.S.A.
(Final verse)
The slowpoke in the center lane, He wants to play a deadly game
He won't move right and let you by, and you can't use the hammer lane
Every driver should obey, the rules and regs that stand today
It wouldn't take a working week to knock this country off its feet.
American trucker, what do you say, what do you say.

Bitter Karen
03:29
|
|||
(Verse 1)
Both your parents left their mark, warped your mind and cut your heart.
Now you’re angry, don’t know why, hurting but you never cry.
(Chorus 1)
All your fears will hang around, waiting till you cut them down.
They will always block your way. Every night and every day.
(Verse 2)
Burning with a fevered spell, you can’t wait long, you can’t stay.
All your demons shadow you still you take my breath away.
(Chorus 2)
Time will change the night to day, time will hide some pain away.
But time alone won’t clear the way, to rid your past and live today
(Verse 3)
You’ve been fighting all your life, now you lie awake at night.
Struggling hard to make your gain, crawling through a dream of pain.
(Final chorus)
Bitter Karen all alone, in a world that's cold as stone
Fighting just to feel the sun, afraid to stay and scared to run.
Afraid to stay and scared to run
Afraid to stay and Scared to run

(Verse)
There’s a fire in the Sun, out of control
There’s a fire in the Sun, without a soul
I am a shining mirror, brighter than a star
There’s a fire in the Sun,
And I know who you are
(Verse 2)
Will we ever really solve, life’s mysteries?
Do we ever really learn how to be free?
I saw you standing there, couldn’t set you free
there’s a fire in the Sun, do you believe in me?
No one’s in control, going nowhere
On a planet growing old, nobody cares
There will be life tomorrow, on a distant star
There’s a fire in the Sun,
And I know who you are
And I know who you are

Chorus
Up Down, Up Down, Daddy refuses to play, Up Down
Daddy’s gone I threw him away
Up Down, Up Down, Can’t feel what I felt before, Up Down, Up Down

Bridge
The bird flew in through my window
He slept so safe for a while
He knew that he must fly again
His will too strong to die
Chorus
Up Down, Up Down, Can’t feel what I felt before
Up Down, Up Down, All alone I’ve opened this door

Bye Baby
Music & Lyric by
Karen Mantero & Dennis Genovese
© ASCAP 1986 American Trucker Publishing
(verse 1)
You don’t want me baby, you don’t need me baby,
and I don’t even know why?
You don’t want me baby, you don’t need me baby,
you’re just telling me lies.
Cause every night and every day, takes you further away.
And in my heart, and in my soul, I can hear what you say.
(chorus)
And I don’t want to live in a fantasy,
I don’t want to live in a make believe
I don’t want to be alone, baby, baby.
(verse 2)
You don’t see me darling, I don’t see you darling,
we’re just drifting apart.
There’s a cold wind blowing, there’s a nightmare growing,
and its breaking my heart.
With every night and every fight, your heart is slipping away.
And all I know, all I feel, it just won’t make it go way.
(chorus 2)
Cause you’re not going to be in my arms tonight.
I’ll be by myself until the morning light.
And I don’t want to be alone, darling, darling,
(verse 3)
Have a good time baby, have a nice time baby,
don’t you even look back.
When its over honey, then its over honey,
we’re not on the same track.
I’m leaving fast, I’ve got to go, you know I’m not coming back.
And when I’m gone, goodbye to you, I’ll find somebody new.
Bye baby, bye baby

Breaking Up is Hard
03:18
|
|||
(Verse 1)
She left me shivering in the rain, wondering who I am
Upon myself I put the blame, now I understand
I will let go and let God, judgment isn’t mine,
Breaking up is hard, each and every single time
(Verse 2)
I should have known that this would end, now everything is gone
Although I’ve lost another friend, I’ve got to carry on
I never thought that love was fair, I find myself again
Walking aimlessly, in the early morning rain
(Bridge)
I swore I’d never let it happen again
Still I walked in with open arms
And now I find myself abandoned by a friend
Well bring it on, bring it on
(Verse 3)
Don’t know what the future holds, haven’t got a clue
I’ve got the Sun I won’t be cold, and I’ve got a lot to do
I’m getting used to being hurt, gets easier every time
The heart is on the mend, and the soul’s just doing fine

(Verse 1)
Johnny Tomorrow’s turning 53, smoking and choking like a chimney.
Running for days without a minute’s rest, Doing the things that he likes doing the best
(Bridge 1)
Johnny better listen to what all your friends say,
You got to get some sleep you can’t keep driving that way
Johnny says no, I got to get there on time,
Had some coffee in Miami and I’m doing just fine
(Bridge 2)
Johnny Tomorrow can’t you hear what they say?
You’re getting in a hurry for your judgment day Johnny says no, I’ve got to do my best
When I get to Oklahoma then I’ll get me some rest.
(Verse 2)
Mariana Florida to Baton Rouge; that 97 Freightliner is on the move
A 53 foot flower trailer fresh to date; Cause Johnny holds the record time he’s never never late.
(Verse 3)
Johnny can’t be sleeping good for very long because he was a sharpshooter in Viet Nam.
It’s rare to find a sniper who’s still got a soul, but Tomorrow was a hit man with a heart of gold
(Bridge 3)
Johnny Tomorrow better watch what you do,
They’re a half a hundred Ghosts out there all looking for you
Driving all night long may keep those nightmares at bay,
Johnny believe me, they’re all coming your way
Johnny Tomorrow’s turning 53, smoking and choking like a chimney.
Running for days without a minute’s rest,
But he’s doing the things that he likes doing the best
(Bridge 1)
Oh Johnny Tomorrow can’t you hear what I say?
They’re a half a hundred ghosts out there all coming your way
Johnny says all I did was do my best when I get to meet my maker then He’ll give me some rest!

To be in Love with You
Music & Lyric: Bobby Andriani & Doc Pomus
Verse 1
To be in love with you, is such a beautiful thing
It’s like the end of a rainbow, like a bluebird learning to sing
Chorus 1- And every time I touch you, and you get that tender look
I feel just like a prince in a fable story book
Verse 2
To be in love with you, is such a wonderful thrill
It’s like the cool breath of springtime, that chases cold winter’s chill
Chorus 2- And every time I kiss you, my heart skips a beat or two
And breaks into little pieces, cause that’s what love can do
Verse 3
And as the years unfold, I hope to share them with you
There’s just no growing old, cause we’ve got so much to do
Chorus 3- You filled my heart with gladness, was it hidden all the while
You searched beneath my sadness, you taught me how to smile

“Mid-December”
Music & Lyric by
Dennis Genovese & Karen Mantero
© 1979 American Trucker Publishing
(Verse)
It was mid-December I well remember the time
I was grieving, I was grieving
There was someone better but I would never believe
She was leaving, she was leaving
And still I feel the way that I felt then
If only I could win her back again
(Bridge)
I know there are times to win and times to loose
And a time for in between
I know when to open up and to close again
And when not to be seen
But when you get older, and all your time gets spent
You stay when you should leave
(Final verse)
She was very young in her mind and beautiful too
Always smiling, always smiling
And my heart won’t let me forget Oh what can I do!
But be dreaming, but be dreaming
If only she would open up her eyes
Maybe someday she might realize
Maybe someday she might realize

Show me where I belong,
and my lost faith will open like a
flower in the sun, and carry on.
(Verse 2)
Give me strength to bear grief and pain
and maybe I might find a way to get back home again.
Heed me to my task, help me fight, or weak I shall remain
Open my weary eyes give me the strength to try,
And my lost faith , will open like a flower in
The sun and carry on---------Oh Lord
Help me find my lost faith
Gonna fight the devil now, gonna find the courage
Gonna do the right thing now, never be discouraged
So help me, so help me, so oh help me.

No Regrets
(Verse 1)
I never should have let you,
Take my heart by surprise
Better if I never met you,
You with the wandering eyes
(Bridge)
You’re the spider I’m the fly,
Caught within your web
First you love me then you lie,
You know I might as well be dead
(Chorus)
Heartaches are all I have; pain is part of my name
It’s so damn sad but true, and, and it’s caused by you
(Bridge 2)
I wish I didn’t ever know you, and then I’d have no regrets
I wish I didn’t ever let you, make me think my life was set

I ain’t gonna sit here and cry for you
I don’t give a damn where you go or what you do
I depended on you
(Chorus 2)
This time it’s really ended
This time it’s really over for good, over for good
This time there ain’t no bending
This time you’ve really nailed down the wood,
Hurt me for good
(Bridge)
And when I come searching for you,
You just leave me flat that is that
And when I come to your home
You just close that f---in door,
You don’t want me no more

Night Stalkers
Music & Lyric by
Dennis Genovese & Karen Mantero
© 1995
American Trucker Publishing
When the sun sleeps, the vampire is awakened.
And the coffins of the living dead are shaking.
Light fades, melting mortal sadness,
Out of nowhere they appear amidst the madness.
(Chorus 1)
Beware the cold and deadly bite; the living dead come out tonight
It’s all right now, everything is quiet; they are patient,
No one breaks the silence.
In the darkness, there can be no sorrow,
Till the light of day must break the spell tomorrow
(Chorus 2)
Beneath the scarlet midnight moon They hunt the swamps for red pocoon
(Bridge)
Searching for blood in the mire Far away from the sun & the light
Living in morbid desire; standing watch the guardians of night.
When the dawn breaks, mortals are awakened,
When the sun shines, darkness is forsaken.
But the shadows, that the sun is making; aren’t dark enough to hide a soul that’s aching.
So they hide themselves in a world that’s free of sunlight.
In the dark, deserted swamps they prowl at midnight.
(Repeat bridge & Fade)
Beware the cold & deadly bite, the living dead come out tonight
Beware the dark be on your guard; the night belongs to ALUCARD

Music & Lyric by Karen Mantero & Dennis Genovese

Verse 1
Untie us get going, our time is done, we’re part of each other, now you must run
Like a bird needs the sky, I’ve let you go, birds need to fly __So! (Guitar Riffs)
Verse 2
Believe me; its deeper words are meaningless
My love is, undying, this much I confess
Bridge 2
All the dreams that were lost; we shared them all
Long live the fun, we had a ball
Verse 3
Our visions, were timeless, long live the songs
I sit here still wondering, where did we go wrong
Bridge 2
Still this pain in my heart, it’s just about to break
Its tearing me apart, lying in bed awake,
Chorus
Maybe I’m just a dreamer, taken by surprise
All this time I’ve been hoping, that this love not die
I know I’ve got to lose you, still I don’t know why
Don’t want to lose you, don’t want to lose you

(Verse)
Little Fish fry, all by yourself,
Your Mommy left you alone on a shelf
She said she’s coming back for you,
Little Fish fry, you know it’s not true
Little Fish fry, what can you do?,
Your Mommy left you alone and blue
Little Fish fry, it ain’t so bad,
I know you think you’re going to loose what you had
(Chorus)
And even when it’s raining, I never hear complaining
As long as you keep trying, as long as you keep hoping
(Repeat First Verse)
(Chorus 2)
And even when it’s raining, I never hear complaining
And every morning flower, has a special hour
(Final Verse)
Little Fish fry, don’t you cry,
Someday your soul is going to light up the sky
Hear the night time it’s calling to you,
You’re going to wake up and be brand new
Is there a place that you can call your own
Is there a place you won’t be so alone?
Little Fish fry, don’t you cry
Someday your soul is going to light up the sky

“To Half a Heart”
Music & Lyric by
Dennis Genovese & Karen Mantero
© ASCAP 1980 American Trucker Publishing
(Verse 1)
Little man, says good-bye, where has he gone?
The empty room, he lived inside, still carries on
It’s all right, everything it shows now
It’s all right, cause everybody knows now
(Verse 2)
Little man, genial man, where do you hide?
All you see, angers you, so many lies
When it’s over, everybody falls down
When it’s over, everybody learns how
(Verse 3)
You’ve got to be yourself somehow
What’s right or wrong?
To half a mind, to half a heart, you can’t belong
It’s all right, let everybody know now
And it’s all right, cause everything it shows now
(Bridge)
You try to run you try to hide the things that you were feeling
And all the while there was the life that you went on concealing
(Verse 3)
We’ve got to be ourselves somehow, what’s right or wrong?
To half a mind, to half a heart, you can’t belong
When it’s over, everybody falls down
When it’s over, everybody learns how

Ballad for a Fisherman
Music and Lyric by
Dennis Genovese and Karen Mantero
© ASCAP American Trucker Publishing. 1973
(Verse 1)
Fisherman, wait for me, take me sailing on the restless sea.
Jig the tuna, fight the blues, I will always tip my hat to you
Take me now, the seagulls cry, for the morning sun is breaking in the sky.
(Verse2)
Earn your living friend; sell the fish you've caught,
Get your price for every shark you've caught.
My respect you've earned, while the sea's earned yours,
In the dark of night off an ancient shore, waiting, quietly,
while the howling wind is tearing up the sea.
(Verse 3)
Spread your lures beneath, a December sky
Soon the codfish will begin to die.
There are few who toil in the way you do,
Even hungry gulls who follow you, hang glide in the sky,
watching from the corner of their eyes.
(Verse 4)
When your skin is burned, by the summer sun,
You'll be netting weakfish one by one.
And your reels will fly, and your rods will bend,
Fisherman, wave hello to a friend;
Yes, Fisherman, I want to be a fisherman like you.
Hey fisherman, there not left many fishermen like you
don’t leave me standing on the dry land.

(Verse 1)
Hey you stealin my car, keep on driving it fast.
You’re not gonna get far, without a pocketful of cash
Sixty-five dollars for plates, sky high insurance rates,
Flats almost every day, take it away.
(Bridge 1)
You know I work hard every day ain’t got a nickel to my name,
Cause half the time its running and the other half its lame.
Mechanics see me coming; yeah they all know me by name,
I don’t know how to thank you it’s been driving me insane.
(Guitar solo)
(Verse 2)
Hey you stealing my car, you better strap yourself in the seat.
You got a gas guzzling dinosaur, you stole a beast.
(Bridge 2)
I used to spend my weekends walking
Cause the car was in the shop.
The sitting and the waiting for the bills would never stop.
It’s just the fifth transmission why it works I’ll never know,
I don’t know how to thank you just keep going, going go.
(Guitar solo)
Hey you stealin my car, drive it under a truck.
Do whatever you want, you silly schmuck.

And all of the reasons keep tripping my mind
Everything’s done with, there’s nothing to try
I can’t believe it, there’s hate in your eyes

On the day that I first met you , All the sun came shining through
On the day that I first met you , All the sun came shining through
Then came the rain, and then came the pain

You have taken your oath, now you know you can’t run

You’re a soldier and you must be brave
You’re a soldier, though you’re everyone’s slave
You've traded your feelings for numbness and void
You’re invulnerable now and you can’t be destroyed

And you can’t find a job
And you’re trying real hard
You fight for our freedom some treat you like dirt
A soldier will never reveal any hurt

You lift up your arms as you face towards the sky
You curse all creation, you wish you could cry

Chorus
Where has my friend gone; left me here alone to carry on
Where has my friend gone; I haven’t seen her run for oh so long

I hoped she’d stay a little longer; I tried so hard to make her stronger
I dream of lying down beside her; she disappears with each new dawn
Bridge (1 2 3 4)
Time has nearly stopped. Feels like years and years we’ve been apart
Time can heal all wounds. Will it ever mend my broken heart
Oh will it ever mend my broken heart
(Musical Interlude)
Verse (through thick and thin she stood beside me) counterpoint
I’d call her name and she’d come running; always remained my loyal friend
We did most everything together; I know someday we’ll meet again
I know someday we’ll meet again

Following My Heart
03:10
|
|||
(Verse 1)
I'm following my heart wherever it may lead.
It's sure been broken up so many times I've watched it bleed.
I don't believe that love can make a guarantee.
I'm going to take a chance and hope you give your heart to me.
(Chorus1)
Times get rough and life gets tough,
But I won’t ever let you down and leave you broken up.
(Verse 2)
There's nothing left to do again I'm trucking down that street
Oh I could surely use a friend to get me on my feet.
The North wind helps the leaves determine when they will fall down
But I'm forever letting old man time blow me around.
(Chorus 2)
Little love left anywhere, so darling keep me by your side,
Don't leave me anywhere.
(Verse 3)
I won’t compete with people who've got heads made
out of stone. You know that I'm the different type;
So don't leave me alone
(Verse 4)
I'm following my heart, wherever it may lead.
It's sure been broken up so many times I've watched it bleed.
I don't believe that love, can make a guarantee.
I'm going to take a chance and hope you give your heart to me.
Little love left anywhere, so darling keep me by your side,
Don't leave me anywhere.

(Verse )
Been so long I’ve seen the stars I can’t remember feeling free
Wasted half my life so far so many things I wished to be
But while I’m floating on this water, I touch the beauty that I see
So many things that I’ve been doing,
Were stopping me from being free
(Chorus)
Waterhole Quarry, you’ve turned me on
Help me I’m changing, help me get free
Show me the beauty, somewhere that’s hiding in me
(Bridge)
Lying on the sheetrock, black as the coal
Pain creates the beauty that lies deep in the soul
I want to be free to express it, hung up on nothing at all
Free to cry out my pain, free to be having a ball
(Chorus)
Waterhole Quarry, you’ve turned me on
Help me I’m changing, help me get free
Show me the beauty, somewhere that’s hiding in me
Oh waterhole quarry, waterhole quarry, Oh waterhole quarry

Thanksgiving
Music & Lyric composed by Dennis Genovese
© American Trucker Publishing 1969
It was a cold night; there was no place to go
To eat, to sleep or keep warm
That night in November; I will always remember
Twas the night that my daughter was born
The blasts in the dark, were seconds apart
It was raining the night; it was crying
The mortars came down, we lay on the ground
We were Brothers looking out; for each other
Far away, from where we were lying in rain;
Far away, from where soldiers were dying in vein
Most of you had a good meal for Thanksgiving you ate, just the same____

Brownie

Brownie” Narrative
Music & Lyric by Dennis Genovese
© ASCAP American Trucker Publishing 1998
I saw him every morning. He was not a pretty sight.
Lying there exhausted, from one of his nighttime fights.
His howling filled the air; you could hear it everywhere.
Brownie was a rough looking mutt with a face full of scars.
But he was a mascot to the drivers
who worked around that Brooklyn truck yard.
Tough as he was, he protected his buddies.
Somehow, I don’t know why, Brownie was connected to me
I found him in a truck yard. He was lying on his side.
That dog could see right through me when he looked me in the eye.
I knew there was a reason, but I’ve always wondered why
When I went back to look for him, many years later,
I was told he had his throat cut by a couple of gang boys,
Who somehow gained his trust.
Brownie didn’t get close to no one that easily.
I kind of wish he would have died fighting like the street mutt that he was.
Twenty-five years and I can’t forget him, as I tell his story one more time.
That stray dog we called Brownie, he was a good friend of mine.

“Tin Man’s Blues”
Music by Dennis Genovese
Lyric by Paul Anderson
© American Trucker Publishing Jan 2000
(Verse 1)
This song's just a blues song, but it's something special to me.
Just my own brand of frustration, keeps going on endlessly.
It begins every morning at what some people call a career.
Part time after school that turned into twenty-something years,
It's the tin mans blues, stuck behind the wheel again,
Blacktop and the clear sky’s, are my only friends.
(Verse 2)
Way back when I got started, this job had style and class.
Dispatchers seemed caring, mechanics would bust their ass.
To keep your truck rolling darling, the money was reasonably fair.
But lately all you hear about is heartache and despair.
You’ve got some pencil pushing would-be, telling you how to drive,
When ten minutes in a bad one would put the teardrops
In that big mouths puny eyes.
(Verse 3)
Johnny came in from the North side, Pedro came in from the South.
Let's hear it for free trade, it's taking the food from my kid's mouth.
But hey, this is America, you got to love her good and bad.
As for trucking darling, the situation is just plain sad.
Dave Dudley was my hero with ten days on the road
Red Solvine had his teddy bear beside him in giddy yap go
Once a respected profession, that carried my family name,
Now the way the public's been treating me, makes my children hide in shame.
(Bridge)
Everything you eat, you wear, and you drive, or smoke
Don't you know it came to you darling on my big old heavy truck.
Eighty thousand pounds of metal, and twenty years of skill and luck.
Shortstop, Triplex and Tazmo, they're all still in the game.
But no, no, no, no, not the tin man, I'm getting out of the hammer lane.
Good-bye American trucking, trying to keep your pride alive.
In a livelihood that’s going down, it's going down, ain't going to survive.
Every car going down the road, seen a trucker with a heavy load,
Used to be a time when you could bet your life on his courtesy.
A trucker was a special breed, protecting you defensively.
I got the Tin Mans Blue's, and Shortstop, Triplex, and Tazmo, They’ve got them too

As I packed my bags for the Persian Gulf,
With my Daughter beside me looking up,
The tears from her eyes rolled down her face
And I thought to myself I may never see her again
And she said
(Verse 1)
Daddy, Daddy, Are they our friends. Daddy, Daddy, Oh what’s revenge
Daddy, Daddy, Why is there hate. Daddy, Daddy, Oh what is fate
She broke my heart; I had to cry, when she said
(Verse 2)
Daddy, Daddy, what’s misery. Daddy, Daddy, what’s poverty
Daddy, Daddy, what’s liberty
(Spoken word)
(Child) Daddy, Why do you have to fight to be free?
And I thought to myself, I may never see her again
And then she said
Daddy, Daddy, Why is there war. Daddy, Daddy, who is it for
She broke my heart, I had to cry,
When she said,
(Bridge)
Dry your eyes lift your tears,
Daddy, don’t you cry
Daddy don’t you cry, Daddy, Daddy
Daddy, don’t you cry!

(Verse 1)
Joey's looking down; he’s a boy so mad with rage,
And without his sense of pride.
The world don’t make it easy, all around you life,
Life can be so hard, doesn’t matter
Makes no difference how you try,
(Chorus 1)
Joey, fly on a rainbow, Joey, chase all the clouds away.
Joey, where are you hiding,
You know you’ve got to come out one day.
Oh you’ve got to grow up some way, or you’ll fall so
(Verse 2)
Deep inside, and those that fall so deep inside,
They never get to fly.
Right next to you am I, I’m an ugly duckling too
I can see how hard you’ve tried
When you look into my eyes.
(Chorus 2)
Joey, pain’s not forever.
Joey, the good times are bound to come
Joey, it all adds up to living,
Soon we’ll be having fun
Joey, pain’s not forever,
Come on in off the run. Pretty soon we’ll be having fun.

(Verse 2)
Alas I only kill: when our needs be hunger.
And why a man must kill, I do not care to wonder.
(Chorus 2)
We are of a species, certain to be doomed.
Threatened by extinction, Not even to be mourned.

Lady dispatcher, what have I got to do.
I’ve been keeping far away not to fall in love with
Lady dispatcher, don’t look into my eyes.
You’ve got troubles all your own, you don’t need none of mine.
Lady dispatcher, a trucker’s what I am
Never known much of nothing else, bout all that I can stand.
Cathy, believe me, I’m broke and I’m growing old,
Always known to think for myself, sometimes doing what I’m told.
(Bridge)
And all I’m looking forward to, is a foggy road at ten till two!
(Verse)
You know those bears and smokies; they’ve got to risk their lives.
But those of us with the trucking blood gots the sleepy's in our eyes.
Shifting, rolling, turning, some forty something years.
From West coast icy mountain roads to the East coast Brooklyn piers.
(Bridge Tag)
The U.S.A. it moves by truck but damn the pays nowhere enough
For raising a family, So Cathy let it be.

Someday I’m going to kick you right out of my mind
Yeah, sure you had the upper hand then
You used to lay your bullshit on me all of the time
And now you’d like to do it again
(Verse)
Well you can drop dead, you heard what I said
Yeah, you’re going to die, die, die, die, die
And I ain’t gonna cry
Well good-bye Mama,
Good-bye Mama, good-bye Mama good-bye
Well Good-bye Mama, good-bye Mama good-bye, bye, bye
bye Good-bye Ma

Oh Lord, it’s not easy
(Chorus)
Tomorrow the sun will rise,
And I will wake with tears of doom in my eyes
(Verse 2)

Lord it’s not easy when your life is filled with hurt
Lord it’s not easy when you’re face is in the dirt
Oh Lord, it’s not easy

Tomorrow the truth must come
And I will wake and want to run again

“A Bum in the Rain”
Music & Lyric by
Dennis Genovese & Karen Mantero
© American Trucker Publishing 1975
(Verse)
Within a world that is doomed to be sick
I must struggle and try to exist.
While everyone thinks that I’m just a bum
Who has lost someone close, just a hobo a ghost
(Chorus)
Tired and weary, no one knows who I am
Only whom I’ve become don’t want the memories,
Adriana’s my name and it’s me on the run
Verse 2)
And those who’ve won have become so unreal
They can’t feel, they just know wrong from right.
And there are some still left fighting within
Unaware of the truth in their lives
(Chorus 2)
Tired and weary, no one knows what I feel
No one dares understand. No one can hear me,
But the few who can see how my life torments me.
(Verse 3)
And so they run from the answers that chase them
For intellects offer disguise.
And so I run from the answers that found me
The sickness that breeds human lives
(Chorus 3)
Tired and weary, I keep wandering in pain
Just a bum in the rain, in the rain

Music & Lyric by
Dennis Genovese

(Verse)
It’s a new day Jodie, what a new day Jodie
It’s just like the day we wanted it to be, Jodie
It’s a day for birds to fly, in a peaceful morning sky
So skip into the Spring young girl,
Your Daddy is so happy he can cry
(Verse 2)
It’s a new time Jodie, what a new time Jodie
It’s just like the time we wanted you to see, Honey
Been a long long while, since I’ve seen that smile
Since we played games of hide and seek when
I would hide but you would peek and find me
(Verse 3)
It’s a new life Jodie, what a new life Jodie
No it’s not like the life I wanted it to be
Though I cannot stay dear, I’m not far away from here
So wipe those teardrops from your eyes
And smile once more before we kiss good-bye

“Where Is Love”
Music & Lyric by
Dennis Genovese
© American Trucker Publishing 1968
(Verse)
Where is love, love is sleeping
Somewhere in the dark,
Sleeping quite a lot these days
But love will bloom, and sing her tune
(Bridge)
For all lost children, and those who hunger, even the hopeless, for everyone
(Verse 2)
Where is love, love is hiding, suffering from fright
Running from the day to escape to the night
But love will bloom, and very soon
For anyone who hurts, and is trying
I’m not trying, anymore

The Youngest Composers
Music & Lyric by Dennis Genovese
© American Trucker Publishing 1966
Verse
The prettiest songs are composed, by the youngest composers of all
The most beautiful music you’ll hear is the music of your children
As they grow!
See how your children play, hear what your children say
Feel how your children care, know what your children need
Watch how your children grow, how can they really know
All of their hopes, all of their dreams, Grow oh so fast, to soon disappear
So hug when a child is hurting, and sing so they learn to give
Teach to your children peace, love so your child may give
Love, so your children live, Love, so your children live
|
||||

Whisper silent thoughts to the wind. Watch the time go by
Tell your secret wish to your dreams, and fly
We put our hearts together, we heard the piper play, but when the dance had ended, oh what a price we had to pay

||||
(Verse)
I met him in the street on a winter night
He was standing in the snow by the lamppost light
And when he turned to me and he asked my name
I knew that I was never going to be the same
(Chorus)
Oh Bobby, I’m calling, oh Bobby, I’m falling in love with you
(Verse 2)
Bobby he is always good to me Bobby always treats me tenderly
And when I’m walking home all alone at night
I can hear him in the wind and I feel all right
(Verse 3)
Singing like an Angel with his golden hair
His voice is like a bell as it fills the air
He takes me in his arms and when he holds me tight
It’s then I know that everything will be all right
(Chorus)
Oh Bobby, I’m calling, oh Bobby, I’m falling in love with you, falling in love with you, falling in love with you

(Verse)
I looked all over for a lover like you
Now I found you I just know what to do
I’m going to kiss you, under the stars
(Verse 2)
I know that I will always want you this way
Now that I have you I just know what to say
I’m going to whisper, into the dark
(Bridge)
And when the night is through, I’ll keep on loving you
And when the day is new, I’ll keep on wanting you
(Verse 3)
To have you near me is a fine, fine dream
Watching your eyes is like a cool summer stream
I’m going to kiss you, under the Moon tonight
Hold you tight, feel so right
(Fade)
And for a million days, I’ll never change my ways
And when the night is through, I’ll keep on loving you

(Verse)
Lowly low, lowly low, how I feel when I’m unreal
Lowly low, lowly low, how you tried to make me feel
Like someone worth nothing at all
I let you make me feel so small
(Bridge)
Since our relationship began
I have been vulnerable to you
I’ve tried my best to understand there’s nothing more to do
(Verse2)
For my soul allows me no defense,
I cannot hide my heart for you
Lowly low, I must go
I cannot be a friend to someone who is not a friend to me
Far more important to be free
Far more important to be free

Dance little girl,
Don’t you let them take the heart from you
Dance little girl that’s all you have to do.

Little Blue Boy
Music & Lyric // © John Marsi
Narration Lyric // Dennis Genovese
Tell me who’s that boy and where is he going
And where’s the girl I used to see him walk with
Don’t tell me she’s with some other guy
I guess somebody better tell him
Just 2 weeks ago I saw you two walking together
You gave me the coldest toughest look
I can still see the smile on your face
I guess you thought you were really happening
What goes around comes around
Everybody gets to sit in Mommy’s lap
Now you’re gonna have to take it like a man
As for me I got a big smile on my face
Matter of fact I’m glad what happened to you
Cause not too long ago, I lost my girl to you
And they called me, Little Blue Boy
Don’t call me Little Blue Boy,
You’re the Little Blue Boy; don’t call me Little Blue Boy

Verse
When we were younger, when we were free
Loving was a simple, mystery
Kissing was a way to wash away our tears
But those were other years, now they’re gone, gone, gone
Verse
Spring touched our heart then drifted away
Soon we were forgetting our years in May
Love became a whisper in other people’s ears
And gone are the simple years
Bridge
Gone before our years were old
Gone before our summer grew cold
Gone before our hearts could feel the loss
Of what we hoped would always be
Verse
Now we are older, now we are free
Love has loosed its hold on you, you and me, you and me

I’ve Got the Memories
Music & Lyric by John Marsicovetere
He’s got the girl that I long to touch,
He’s got the girl that I need so much,
He’s got a smile that he can’t hide, He’s got love,
I’ve got the memories, He’s got you.
I never thought it could be so bad,
I never thought it could make me sad,
He’s got a smile that he can’t hide, He’s got love,
I’ve got the memories, He’s got you.
Why must my life go on. If it’s just for the memories that linger on.
Why did you go? I guess I’ll never, never, never, ever know.
He’s got a smile that he can’t hide, He’s got love
I’ve got the memories, he’s got you.
I’ve got the memories he’s got you!

Day & Night
Music & Lyric by Johnny Hanrahan
Verse
Day & Night. I sit alone by my window
Watching my tears go by.
Morning brings the rain, and so much pain
Ever since you’ve been gone
Chorus

Seconds seem like years
I count the lonely hours, watching my falling tears
Oh Oh Day I sit alone by my window
Watching my tears go by.

Verse 1
The autumn winds of change are blowing free
They’re whispering to both you and me.
Tomorrow’s just a memory past
Forever doesn’t really last
Bridge
The love we shared may well be lost
and never to be felt again.
But this little piece of time forever will remain.
Embedded in this soul so deep
A part of you is mine for keeps
Tag
And I could never loose, this part of me that's you.
Because it has replaced, the part of me I gave
The changing winds must blow, but I don’t want to know
I don’t want to go

Soft Spoken Man
Music & Lyric: Al Canecchia
© Al Canecchia
Verse:
He was a soft spoken man, He took me by the hand
He tried to make my whole life better
He sailed my ship through stormy weather
He was a soul searching man, He made me understand
Just what my life could be, when I choose my destiny
Bridge:
Then one day I came to see what he had done for me
Taught me right from wrong gave me strength to sing my song
Verse:
He was a God fearing man, He made me take a stand
Against the tide that pulls you down and spins your head round and round
Bridge:
Then one day I came to know how the winds of change can blow
Always there at my side His love became my guide

You Broke My Heart
Music & Lyric: Bobby Andriani & Doc Pomus
© Hill & Range Publishing
You promised me that you’d always be true
But I found out you promised others too.
You broke my heart more than once before
But it ain’t gonna happen to me no more
You always hurt the one you love the best
You act real nice and sweet to all the rest
You broke my heart more than once before
But it ain’t gonna happen to me no more
Bridge:
You heard the expression once a fool
Always a fool
But I’m gonna be the exception to the rule
And then you’ll see that two can play the game
And what I’ll do to your heart will be a shame
You broke my heart more than once before
But it ain’t gonna happen to me no more

“Done It Again”
Music & Lyric by
Karen Mantero & Dennis Genovese
© 1976 American Trucker Publishing
(Verse )
You’ll never know what I go through,
After all that I’ve done to you
Love should mean something more,
Something more than it did before
You must know how I feel for you
After all that we’ve been through
Life should mean something more,
Something more than it did before
(Chorus)
There I go I’ve done it again
I’ve walked out on my best friend
There I go I’ve done it again
I’ve closed the door on my only friend
I look at him, smiling at me, I can’t help but cry
Cause I know that he’s really hurting inside
(Verse 3)
You’ll never know what I go through
After all that I’ve done to you
I love you more than anything
With all the hurt that I must bring
There I go I’ve done it again
I’ve walked out on my best friend
There I go I’ve done it again
I’ve closed the door on my only friend
There I go I’ve done it again!

Ballad for a Fisherman
04:02
|
|||
(Verse3)
Spread your lures beneath, a December sky
Soon the codfish will begin to die.
There are few who toil in the way you do,
Even hungry gulls who follow you, hang glide in the sky,
watching from the corner of their eyes.
(Verse 4)
When your skin is burned, by the summer sun,
You'll be netting weakfish one by one.
And your reels will fly, and your rods will bend,
Fisherman, wave hello to a friend;
Yes, Fisherman, I want to be a fisherman like you.
Hey fisherman, there not left many fishermen like you
don’t leave me standing on the dry land.

We’re working all day, for some fat little slob
Give most of our pay to political hogs
But we don’t accept this, and so we reject this
We won’t be appeased anymore
(Verse 2)
We are white, we are black, it don’t matter like that
Just as long as you’re poor, you’ll lie flat on your back
(Chorus)
Our babies are hungry, our veterans dying
Our women are weary, our men folk are tired
So this be the workers reply
(Verse 3)
The profits you take on the moneys we make
We’re industrial slaves, paying tax
The workers they suffer, while elitist bloodsuckers
Garnish more than they know how to waste
(Final Chorus)
We’re fighting each other, from brother to brother
We’re fighting each other, from sister to sister
For masters of chaos, of lies and deception
To all of you hear us, you no longer steer us
The workers have opened their eyes

How long till you take me down again
And I go on believing, and you go on deceiving
How long till you take me down again
(Verse 2)
Look hard I cannot find you, I have no ears you have no eyes
But your touch, a burning fire, from your love no one can hide

You think you’ll find someone, who’ll love you more than me
You may have lots of fun, but you’ll be sure to see
That one fine day will come, I’m going to run

You won’t even hold me what you thinking of
There’s something wrong, there’s something wrong

Loss of Function
03:07
|
|||
Verse:
I have so many songs to write, and then so many songs to sing
So many things to do, but I haven’t as yet done a thing
This depression has crippled my mind, I’m so blocked I can’t function at all
All the feelings I know I should feel, I can’t begin to touch them at all
Bridge:
As an artist who cannot create, any purpose to which I can relate
As a man who can’t even cry, not a tear will escape from my eys
Refrain:
Standing in the middle of a white cloud of snow
I cannot decide which way to go
Like a weary traveler who’s lost in a circle going round and round
Hoping only to be found

Verse
Fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly, I’ve got to love one man till I die
Can’t help lovin dat man o mine
Tell me he’s lazy, tell me he’s slow,
maybe I’m crazy but maybe I know
Can’t help lovin dat man o mine
Chorus
When he goes away, that’s a rainy day
But when he gets back that day is fine, the sun will shine
Verse
He can come home a quarter to three,
home without him ain’t no home for me
Can’t help lovin dat man o mine
Can’t help lovin dat man o mine

SARA
Music & Lyric © Danny Marsi _
Lead Vocal: Danny Marsi_ Musician: Dennis Genovese
Verse
Good times and love rhymes I write about the sea, Sunlight & roses bring out the best in me
Love, love and love I was always loved more, No obstacles to a sad and lovely day
Sail on straight with my head inside the clouds, Rainbows beside me color the path I lead
All that I need is for Sara to be near, You are the reason all life is so clear
Sail on woman sail on to me
Chorus
Well I suffered to the limits, held by the gimmicks never knowing which way to turn
Confuse by rejection, lost my direction and I didn’t think I’d ever walk straight
I needed you beside me, someone to guide me and to help me through the times of my life
I was helpless to the left, and pitied to the right as I humbled to the weakness of passion
Like a half a man
Well I was caught in between, had a dreadful dream and I woke up from an amnesia night
Yes I remember the beginning, how could I forget it when these scars still remain all these years
I needed you beside me, someone to guide me and to help me to the golden gate
I was helpless to the left, and pitied to the right as I humbled to the weakness of passion
Like a half a man
Verse
Good times and love rhymes I write about the sea, Sunlight & roses bring out the best in me
Love, love and love I was always loved more, No obstacles to a sad and lovely day
Sail on Sara, sail on to me, babe, come, to me
you are the life, the life of my soul, Come to me and make me hold

Tweeter And The Monkey Man © Bob Dylan
Tweeter and the Monkey Man were hard up for cash
They stayed up all night selling cocaine and hash
To an undercover cop who had a sister named Jan
For reasons unexplained she loved the Monkey Man
Tweeter was a Boy Scout 'fore she went to Vietnam
And found out the hard way, nobody gives a damn
They knew that they found freedom just across the Jersey line
So they hopped into a stolen car, took Highway 99
Chorus:]
And the walls came down
All the way to hell
Never saw them when they're standing
Never saw them when they fell
The undercover cop never liked the Monkey Man
Even back in childhood he wanted to see him in the can
Jan got married at fourteen to a racketeer named Bill
She made secret calls to the Monkey Man from a mansion on the hill
It was out on Thunder Road, Tweeter at the wheel
They crashed into paradise; they could hear them tires squeal
The undercover cop pulled up and said "Everyone of you is a liar
If you don't surrender now it's gonna go down to the wire."
[Chorus]
An ambulance rolled up, a state-trooper close behind
Tweeter took his gun away and messed up his mind
The undercover cop was left tied up to a tree
Near the souvenir stand, by the old abandoned factory
Next day the undercover cop was hot in pursuit
He was taking the whole thing personal; he didn't care about the loot
Jan had told him many times, "It was you to me who taught
In Jersey anything's legal as long as you don't get caught."
[Chorus]
Some place by Rahwey Prison they ran out of gas
The undercover cop had cornered them, said
"Boy, you didn't think this could last?"
Jan jumped out of bed, said, "There's someplace I gotta go."
She took the gun out of the drawer, said, "It's best that you don't know."
The undercover cop was found face down in a field
The Monkey Man was on the river bridge, using Tweeter as a shield
Jan said to the Monkey Man, "I'm not fooled by Tweeter's curl
I knew him long before he became a Jersey Girl."
[Chorus]
Now the town of Jersey City is quieting down again
I'm sitting in a gambling club called the Lion's Den
The TV set was blown up; every bit of it is gone
Ever since the nightly news showed that the Monkey Man was on
I guess I'll go to Florida and get myself some sun
There ain't no more opportunity here; everything's been done
Sometimes I think of Tweeter, sometimes I think of Jan
Sometimes I don't think about nothing but the Monkey Man

Oh, Donna, Oh, Donna, Oh, Donna, Oh, Donna
I had a girl, Donna was her name, since she left me I've never been the same
'cause I love my girl, Donna, oh where can you be? Where can you be?
Now that you're gone - I'm left all alone, all by myself to wander and roam
'cause I love my girl, Donna, oh where can you be? Where can you be?
Well, darling, now that you're gone, I don't know what I'll do
with all the time and all my love for you
I had a girl, Donna was her name, since she left me I've never been the same
'cause I love my girl, Donna, oh where can you be? Where can you be?

Music & Lyric by
Karen Mantero & Dennis Genovese

(Verse 1)
Bring your dead out in the street, pall bearers cannot weep
Babies suckle mother’s breast, while she lays in gloomy rest
(Chorus 1) Instrumental Only
(Verse 2)
Woe the black cloud has no heart, load the body’s on the cart
Strike the Church bell, kneel to pray, to a God who’s gone away
(Chorus 2)
Black plague has come to stay
For their sins they must repay
Black plague must go away
Let us live another day
(Verse 3)
All are victims in this game, Bow your head and feel the pain
Cry survivor, turn away, Listen what the others say
(Chorus 3
Black plague has come to stay
For their sins they will repay
Black plague must go away
Let us live another day
(Verse 4)
Superstition lore’s and lies; Drink your urine stay alive
Strike the Church bell, kneel to pray, to a God who’s gone away

(Verse)
Well I woke up this morning, whoa what a beautiful day
Said I woke up this morning, whoa what a beautiful day
Yeah I met someone special now everything’s going my way
(Verse)
She was dancing like hot Georgia asphalt my eyes were on fire
Dancing and prancing her body was filled with desire
While I was held captive with lust like a bird on a wire
(Solo)
(Verse)
Oh you woke me up baby, smack in the middle of the night
Well you woke me up baby, smack in the dark of the night
I can see that you’re smiling I guess I’ve been doing something right
(Verse)
There’s a voice in my head whispering no it’s too good to be true
Said that voice keeps on telling me no it’s too good to be true
But I ain't gonna listen I’m too busy falling for you
(Verse)
Must have fell out of bed
Landed smack on my head, I’m all right
Keep on rubbing my eyes cause
I must have been dreaming all nigh
I can see that your smiling I guess I’ve been doing something right
Whoa, what a beautiful day, Whoa, what a beautiful day

Susan was my sister, but not for very long. She never got to know me,
She died when she was three.
Still I often wonder, just how she lived at all, for she could not hear,
She could not see, she couldn’t even crawl.
To watch a baby suffering, is not an easy task
So beautiful, so innocent, you knew she couldn’t last
Yes my little baby sister, she got lost behind the doors
In a hospital called Willow Brook, where no one cared at all.
Bobby took his life last night; a week ago he said good-bye
Now I'm left with all the memories, of my tough kid Brother and I
Bobby never had a single chance, only two when he lost his Daddy's love
Susan died when she was only three; forever changed my Father’s stance
And it broke my Mama's heart, to put that little girl away
She watched my Daddy fall apart, I still hear my Mother say!
You should have seen the child cling to him,
You should have seen the child cling to him,
He’s never been the same, since that day.
He said he’d cut off his right arm (on the way) said he’d cut off his right arm
Rather than put that little girl away.
After Susan died little Andrew was born, Dad’s intentions were good.
He named him after himself, did the best that he could.
Bobby grew up quite confused; his heart of gold had been so abused
With the courage of a Lion in a cage Bobby had no fear, Bobby filled with rage
You were lucky to be Bobby’s friend,
You never ever saw him backing down
The time I missed the beating of my life,
Two of them and one of me, in the middle of the night
But the beating changed direction cause my brother was around. Where oh where oh where are you now?
Got to find a way, I've got to get to talk to you somehow
I need you here why did you have to leave,
I know you're somewhere looking out for me
Susan little sister, he went and took his life
We watched our Fathers heart torn out,
We watched him fall apart, Please forgive me now,
I forgave him now, twenty years we’d been apart.
The circle has come round now and I’ve got my own little girl,
And if I ever lost her, I'd destroy my whole damned world. So Daddy though you hurt us, we know it wasn't from your heart, not in the start
I’m glad we both forgave each other, before you passed apart.
For Danny

Waiting for Someone
03:59
|
|||
(Verse)
You’re waiting for someone, some other man
He’ll come along, you’ll take his hand
He’ll whisper softly in your ear, I’m sure he’ll understand
(Verse 2)
Things haven’t been right now, we both agree
There’s not much time, my eyes can see
You’re waiting till the time is right to break and set us free
(Chorus)
I’m feeling reluctant, its hard letting you go
I’d be a liar, were I to say no
I know you’re scared, to leave on your own
I’m hoping for the strength to let you go
(Verse 3)
You’re waiting for someone, some other guy
He’ll come along, he’ll catch your eye
I’m just waiting for the girl I love to wave her last good-bye

03:14
|
|||
(Verse) Say good-bye to Ann Marie, we’re going on the road
You and me we leave tonight, it’s time that she be told
(Bridge) Tell her that you want to stay, in her arms another day
But tonight we’ve got to go

She needs your companionship, everyone can see
(Bridge) She don’t need no other man, she don’t want no other man
Hopefully she’ll understand
(Chorus) Don’t stop bending those strings while your heart it hurts!
Your cry-baby’s screaming it out
Guitar Riff
You’re missing that lady right now!
(Verse) Every night an endless dream, a countless maze of sounds
Still your mind creates a scheme, another lick is found
Say goodbye to Ann Marie, say goodbye for you and me
(Chorus) Don’t stop bending those strings while your heart it hurts!
Your cry-baby’s screaming it out
Lead Guitar Lick
(Verse)
Kick and snare drums fill your ears, another song refrain
2021 is near, things are bound to change
Tell her that you want to stay, in her arms another day
But tonight we’ve got to go
Don’t stop bending those strings while your heart it hurts!
Your cry-baby’s screaming it out 0
Guitar Solo>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
She so young and beautiful, holds you in her heart
Maybe you’ll be losing her, too much time apart

Peace River
04:01
|

Met a man from Tennessee, Didn’t take too long till Mitch became a friend to me
Mitch was always working hard, slinging mud all day supporting his family
Songwriters that we were, sharing what we dreamed and what we felt someday could be
Chorus: Peace River, show me the way to rest I’m trying, Lord knows I’m doing my best
I’m grateful, I play guitar with my friend, maybe I’ll find some kind of happiness again
Verse: Southern sun burns right thru your skin, Catch your breath and you go right back to slinging mud again
Writing songs he expressed his dreams, Mitch proclaimed that everyone is just a human being
Repeat Chorus
I was hauling rock, my load was stuck, I needed help and Mitch came running to unload the truck,
Rest 1-2-3 with just a shovel in his hand
Peace River, show me the way to rest, I’m trying, Lord knows I’m doing my best
I’m grateful I got to play with my friend, I know they’ll come a day I’ll see Mitch once again
Verse: Southern sun burns right thru your skin, Catch your breath and you go right back to slinging mud again

My Mate of Yesterday
01:56
|
|||
Verse)
I will always love you, no matter what I do
Cause love is just a feeling and I’ll always feel for you
(Chorus)
I would try to be there, if you do run into trouble
I would come to help you, I’m not that far away
I will not forget, my mate of yesterday
Narration
Relationships are severed for many reasons.
Some man-made, some beyond our control.
For many, the bittersweet memories continue to linger
Even though the union no longer exists
(Verse 2)
A lifetime full of memories grows bittersweet with time
You opened up your soul to me and I sure opened mine
(Chorus)
We may not be together when darkness comes to stay
But spirits live forever, we’ll meet again some day
I will not forget, my mate of yesterday

COMPLICATIONS OF A WOMAN ALONE
Music & Lyric by Dennis Genovese & Karen Mantero
© ASCAP American Trucker Publishing Feb 1973
(Verse 1)
Woman, you have grown some, look what you’ve done,
Take a good look at yourself brave young woman, you are changing,
Rearranging, in a world that makes it hard to be a
(Verse 2)
Woman, you’re defeated, unaccounted, and exploited by most every man you meet.
(Bridge)
From the first day that your eyes could see.
You were given an identity, missing individuality.
Now you struggle to get free.
(Verse 3)
Woman, quite uncertain, as a person, must you bear a child to find your purpose
Woman, you have gained your independence and it feels so good to know that I’m your man.
Feels so good to know that I’m your man.
Feels so good to know that I’m your man.

“The Workers Reply”
Music & Lyric by Dennis Genovese
© ASCAP American Trucker Publishing
We’re working all day, for some fat little hog, Give most of our pay to political slobs
But we don’t accept this and so we reject this, we won’t be appeased anymore
Our babies are hungry, our sick folk are dying, our woman are weary, our men folk are tired
So this be the workers reply
We are white, we are black, it don’t matter like that, Just as long as you’re poor, you’ll lie flat on your back
The profits they take on the moneys we make, an industrial slave, till you’re laid in your grave
The workers they suffer, for elitist bloodsuckers, who have more than they know how to waste
(Final Chorus)
To breeders of cancer and prejudiced causes, to masters of chaos, of lies and distortions,
To leaders of Unions and Government speakers, to all of you hear us, for soon you shall fear us
The workers have opened their eyes. So this be the workers reply
